Cold fiber laser technology
What is a cold fiber laser?
A cold fiber laser is a fiber laser that operates at 2910 nm, near the peak of water absorption in skin, and ablates tissue in very short, precisely controlled pulses so that little residual heat is left behind. Acclaro Medical created this category, called cold ablation, and UltraClear was the first cold fiber laser. Limiting residual heat matters because heat is what drives most of the pain, downtime and pigmentation risk of conventional ablative lasers.
Why does Acclaro use a 2910 nm wavelength?
The 2910 nm wavelength sits at the peak of water absorption. Because skin is mostly water, energy at this wavelength is absorbed precisely where it is delivered, removing tissue with pinpoint wound geometry and minimal thermal spread, which leaves healthy tissue around every treated point to aid healing.
How is a cold fiber laser different from conventional ablative lasers?
For decades ablative resurfacing has relied on gas and crystal laser architectures. Acclaro's platforms are true fiber lasers at 2910 nm. They produce a very small spot with minimal thermal spread, and their pulsing controls heat precisely instead of leaving it as a by-product. The result is less pain, faster healing and treatment that is safe across Fitzpatrick skin types I to VI.
Is cold fiber laser treatment safe for all skin types?
Yes. Both UltraClear and AuraLux are designed for Fitzpatrick skin types I to VI, including skin of color. By minimizing unwanted thermal damage, the technology addresses the post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and erythema concerns that make conventional energy-based treatments risky for darker skin types.
Are UltraClear and AuraLux FDA cleared?
Yes. UltraClear is cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and launched in the United States in 2022. AuraLux is also FDA cleared. Specific indications for each platform are listed on ultraclearlaser.com and auralux.com.
Is there published clinical research on Acclaro's technology?
Yes. The 2910 nm cold fiber laser platform is supported by peer-reviewed studies in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine spanning photoaging, acne scarring and resurfacing. Publications are collected at ultraclearlaser.com/resources/publications, and practices can request clinical data from auralux.com.
What are 3DMIRACL, 3DIntelliPulse and Laser-Coring?
These are Acclaro Medical's registered and trademarked technologies. 3DMIRACL is a quick, comfortable treatment mode for radiant, healthy-looking skin, available on both platforms. 3DIntelliPulse is UltraClear's proprietary pulsing technology, which works with 3DMIRACL to deliver results with less downtime and pain. Laser-Coring is UltraClear's exclusive mode that creates precise micro-channels to remove redundant tissue and restore natural contours.
UltraClear
What is UltraClear?
UltraClear is the world's first 2910 nm cold fiber laser, made by Acclaro Medical for dermatology, plastic surgery and aesthetic practices. One device offers seven customizable treatment modes, from a lunchtime 3DMIRACL treatment to full resurfacing, deep collagen remodeling and Laser-Coring. It is FDA cleared and launched in the United States in 2022. Learn more at ultraclearlaser.com.
What does UltraClear laser treatment do?
UltraClear uses short, concentrated light beams to gently remove the top layers of dull and damaged skin, triggering the body's natural healing process and new cell growth, while depositing controlled thermal energy at the deeper dermal level to stimulate collagen. Treatments address tone, texture, pigmentation, sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars and the effects of gravity and aging, from prejuvenation to full resurfacing.
Does UltraClear laser treatment hurt?
UltraClear's 3DMIRACL technology dramatically reduces treatment discomfort. The pain score with UltraClear treatment is typically less than 3 on a scale of 10, while most other resurfacing methods rate 6 or higher.
What is the downtime after an UltraClear treatment?
It depends on the treatment. The lunchtime 3DMIRACL option has little to no downtime: some redness and mild swelling right after, make-up within a few hours, and back to work the same or next day. More intensive options for deeper wrinkles, lines around the eyes or acne scars typically involve an average of three or more days of downtime.
How long do UltraClear results last?
With the 3DMIRACL option, skin improves within 3 to 5 days and results may last several months. With UltraClear's more advanced options, skin continues to improve for up to 6 months and results may last 1 to 2 years. Because skin keeps aging, maintenance treatments may be needed.
What is UltraClear Laser-Coring?
Fiber-enabled Laser-Coring is UltraClear's proprietary and exclusive treatment mode for the effects of gravity and aging. It creates precise micro-channels with controlled energy delivery to remove redundant tissue, combined with ablative resurfacing for fast collagen contraction, in about 30 minutes or more, with less downtime and bleeding than traditional methods. Full results take about 2 to 3 months as the body generates new collagen and elastin.
How does UltraClear compare with other resurfacing lasers?
UltraClear belongs to a different class of device. Conventional resurfacing systems are gas or crystal lasers; UltraClear is a cold fiber laser at 2910 nm that resurfaces while limiting residual heat. In practice that means pain typically below 3 out of 10, a favorable ratio of clinical efficacy to downtime, suitability for all skin types, and a full spectrum of treatments on one device. A provider can advise which technology fits a given concern.
How much does UltraClear cost?
Treatment prices are set by each practice and vary with the treatment mode and the area treated; patients can find a provider at ultraclearlaser.com. For practices, equipment pricing comes from Acclaro Medical sales at 888.833.0399, and the UltraClear site offers an ROI calculator. Equipment purchases may qualify for IRS Section 179 deductions, which is worth reviewing with a tax advisor.
AuraLux
What is AuraLux?
AuraLux is an FDA-cleared cold fiber laser skin care system from Acclaro Medical, built on the same 2910 nm cold fiber laser as UltraClear. It is designed for prevention-focused patients and the practices that serve them, with treatments short enough for a lunch break, and is offered at select premium practices. AuraLux was named a People en Español Beauty Star Product for 2026. Learn more at auralux.com.
What treatments does AuraLux offer?
AuraLux offers four treatments, each at a different depth. 3DMIRACL sweeps the outermost layer for immediate glow and even tone in 10 to 15 minutes with no numbing. Refresh reaches the epidermis to correct texture, early photodamage and uneven tone. Renew reaches the dermis for meaningful collagen remodeling for scars and deeper wrinkles. Glide delivers the treatment in a continuous, in-motion pass for larger areas such as the neck, chest and hands.
How long does an AuraLux treatment take, and does it hurt?
A 3DMIRACL treatment on AuraLux takes 10 to 15 minutes with no numbing cream and no needles. The average reported pain score is 1.9 out of 10, described as closer to a facial than a laser. Afterwards there is a sunburn feeling for 30 to 60 minutes and a day or two of pinkness and light flaking, with social downtime of 24 to 48 hours.
How often should AuraLux treatments be repeated?
AuraLux is designed for recurring visits every 4 to 8 weeks depending on the treatment: a quick monthly 3DMIRACL maintenance visit, Refresh as a seasonal reset, and Renew spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart for compounding collagen results.
Is AuraLux suitable for skin of color?
Yes. AuraLux treats Fitzpatrick skin types I through VI with fully customizable settings, so no patient is turned away for their skin tone.
What is the difference between AuraLux and UltraClear?
Both are built on Acclaro Medical's 2910 nm cold fiber laser. UltraClear is the full-spectrum platform for dermatology, plastic surgery and aesthetic practices, with seven treatment modes including deep resurfacing and Laser-Coring. AuraLux is a skin care system with four modalities built around quick, comfortable, repeatable visits for prevention-focused patients, which maps onto membership and treatment-series models.
Where can I find AuraLux near me, and what does it cost?
AuraLux is offered at select practices listed in the provider locator at auralux.com. Treatment prices are set by each practice and vary by treatment; many practices offer AuraLux as a membership or series.
